In order to operate a drone you must comply with the regulations and where necessary carry out a an approved course, a flight test and prepare an operations manual and apply for a special operating permission. Click here or on the link above for more information on the drone Certificate of Competence / Pilots Licence.
Flight tests for the Pilot Competence Certificate and Specific Operations Permission can currently be carried out in house at Avtrain or by the IAA.
In order to apply to the IAA for a Specific Operations Permission an Operations Manual must be submitted for approval by the IAA or an approved examiner. At the moment the ground course covers the contents of this manual and the Operators course is incorporated into our Drone PCC ground school. A template manual is also provided during the course. It is envisioned that this situation will change and that a stand alone operators course will have to be completed prior to the issue of a Special Operating Permission for complex operations involving multiple pilots / multiple drone types on the same permission.
